2- answer this discussion question with 300 words.
We have privatized health care facilities, prisons, and military housing. It seems logical that there has also been debate over privatization of air traffic control governance. These discussions have been going on for 30 years or more. Funding for FAA programs comes from two sources: annual appropriations and the Airport and Airway Trust Fund (AATF). approximately 30% of the FAA's annual budget comes from appropriations and the trust covers the rest with the theory that a robust aviation sector provides substantial benefits to the nation.
the question is:
What are your thoughts on privatization of Air Traffic Control? Are you for or against? Who would pay for it? What are the benefits and disadvantages?
3- respond to 2 classmates discussion with 150 words for each one of them.
the first one – I believe that Air Traffic Control should not be privatized. The FAA has been under government control for so long and it has been going fairly well. Other than the white book era, I feel like Air Traffic Controllers have been pretty happy with their jobs. The government is able to supply great benefits to the workers. I think that the government should definetely update the facilities as the safety of the aviation industry relies on the efforts of Air Traffic Controllers. If Air Traffic Control were to be privatized, it would be a very expensive endeavor and I am not sure who would pay for it. I think it might be beneficial for the comfort of Air Traffic Controllers as the technology would have to be updated. However, I feel like this would be a very long process and it maight just be more beneficial to leave Air Traffic Control under the control of the government.
the second one – I do not believe that air traffic control should be privatized. i feel like privatizating safety measures can sometimes lead to unforseen and potentially less than ideal results. I believe that if the government is funding any part of this program, whether it be from annuel appropriations or the Airway Trust Fund, that government should have a large say in or be in control for the majority of the business. As this was started as a government funded project, i think it should remain that way unless "handed down" by the government. My biggest issue/negative I think with the privitization of air traffic control is no matter who buys it, we have no clue how they will actually run it. Its a huge risk associated with selling a governing body to an privatized company that might not even have the same training regiment for operators or rules as in the past. One of the big advantages to privitization could include that they no longer have to dig for funds from the government but from the people who either own or use the company, or maybe that the privitized company may actually run ATC better than the government had in the past. At this point it feels almost like a coinflip.
